10 Biblical Inner Beauty Traits For Christian Women

How do we cultivate an inner beauty that radiates Christ when the world around displays something different? Let’s take a look at ten biblical inner beauty traits for Christian women.. We live in a culture that is so consumed with looks but lacks depth and displays a foundation that will eventually crumble. The way we look on the outside, our image, seems to be everything. From magazine covers to social media feeds, we see this picture-perfect image painted by so many in society.

How do we cultivate true beauty that matters? How do we build a solid foundation of inner beauty that radiates from the inside out? It begins and ends with the Bible.

We all know external beauty is fleeting as our skin wrinkles and gray hairs grace our manes. There may be plenty of ways to delay this process, but let’s face the facts–aging is inevitable.

No matter how much wrinkle cream we apply or Botox we inject, the results are temporary.

Let’s put our trust in the Word of God and take a look at Biblical inner beauty traits for Christian women.

Christian women build their inner beauty on Christ as their solid foundation.

The Bible is clear about what our foundation should be built upon. Christ alone is our rock and our solid foundation that is the base of everything in our lives. With Jesus we can withstand whatever life throws our way.

Look how beautifully and simply 1 Corinthians 3:11 expresses this truth. “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Paul clearly states that Jesus Christ is the only true and lasting foundation upon which both our faith and lives must be built upon. In writing to the Corinthians, Paul warns against building on anything else, whether that’s self-satisfaction or trying to live up to beauty standards placed on us by the world.

Christ is the unshakable foundation of our daily lives and our eternal future and any attempt to build on something else will ultimately fail.

If Paul’s well-earned wisdom wasn’t enough, Jesus explains this foundational principle Himself in Mathew 7:24-25,

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Jesus uses this parable to contrast two types of builders (or people)—one who builds on the rock (Christ) and another who builds on the sand (anything apart from Christ). When the storms of life come (trials, temptations, hardships, etc.), only those who have built their lives on Christ will stand firm.

This verse teaches that obedience to Christ’s Word is crucial for a strong foundation that stands the test of time.

Fads and fashion trends don’t change this foundation.

Being built on the truth of Christ and promises He speaks is unlike any beauty trend or any external satisfaction. His foundation upholds us and builds us into His image. When we put our trust in Him our hearts are changed, and that my friend, is where true beauty lies. Our inner beauty traits become obvious.

Biblical inner beauty traits for Christian women manifest in the heart.

Have you ever judged someone by their appearance only to realize once you got to know them, your “physical” first impression of them was totally off the mark? Once you got to know their character, you got a true glimpse of who they are; one any outside image could never convey. Often times we judge a book by its cover.

David could understand this scenario so well. Although the Bible does describe him as having a “handsome appearance” (1 Samuel 16:12), he ultimately was underestimated by his age and stature compared to his older brothers.

When God sent Samuel to anoint the next king of Israel, Jesse didn’t even invite David to the party!

As his older brothers passed by Samuel, many of them looked the part of a king, but God reminded him that God’s standards focus on the heart.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the Lord sees, for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7.

The Lord gets right to the heart of the matter; the heart itself. No, He is not referring to the blood pumping organ, rather our character and inner beauty that is priceless in His eyes.

10 Biblical Inner Beauty Traits for Christian Women to Cultivate

If we know true beauty starts on the inside, what are the character traits that radiate such a beauty? Here are 10 things God’s Word has to say on inner beauty character traits.

1) The Inner Beauty of Love.

Love is the foundation of true inner beauty. A loving heart radiates kindness and selflessness. It is not self-seeking or arrogant but instead sees the beauty and value of others the way God sees.

2) The Inner Beauty of Kindness.

A kind and wise person uplifts others with their words and actions. Godly kindness sets us apart and is visible in an unmistakable way.

3) The Inner Beauty of Humility.

Humility allows a person’s beauty to shine through selflessness and grace. A humble heart is not selfish and can admit with honesty their sin and failures and isn’t afraid to present them to our loving and forgiving God.

4) The Biblical Inner Beauty Trait of Gentleness.

Gentleness reflects a peaceful and tender heart. Gentleness is anything but weak, but rather is a quiet strength that does not need to be forced but rather flows naturally.

5) The Biblical Inner Beauty Trait of Patience.

Patience shows a beautiful, calm, and understanding spirit. Patience is a virtue that is developed as we learn to rely on the Lord for His wisdom and ways.

6) The Biblical Inner Beauty Trait of Forgiveness.

Forgiving others reflects God’s grace and makes a person’s soul truly radiant. Forgiveness frees us of the heavy weight of offense without excusing poor behavior.

7) The Biblical Inner Beauty Trait of Joy.

A joyful heart brings warmth and light into every situation. Joy is a glow that any difficult circumstance or situation can not dim, but rather is steadfast and unhindered by the world around us.

8) The Biblical Inner Beauty Trait of Integrity.

Integrity and honesty make a person trustworthy and admirable. Integrity does what is right when no one is looking.

9) The Biblical Inner Beauty of Compassion.

Compassion shows a heart that deeply cares for others. Compassion loves others in hard situations and when it doesn’t make sense in our own minds.

10) The Biblical Inner Beauty of Peace.

A peaceful spirit brings harmony and beauty into relationships. Being peaceful doesn’t mean passivity, but rather holds the wisdom to know the proper words and actions that make a true difference.

Knowing God’s Truth About Beauty

As we grow closer to Christ, He naturally transforms our character. We can’t help but be a reflection of who He is when He is at the center of our hearts. He changes us from the inside out. That is a beauty which transcends time and trends.

Nothing can dull the beauty of a woman who is confident in her faith and in who God says she is.

1 Peter 3:3-4 solidifies God’s truth about where true beauty lies. “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

Our inner beauty is of great worth in God’s eyes.

Don’t let the world fool you into thinking all of the external things will complete you or fulfill you. They simply can not. The external beauty the world idolizes pales in comparison to the love and wholeness we experience when we are in relationship with Jesus.

Let the light of Jesus transform you, shine through you, and radiate into the world around you. Your inner beauty will never fade and will brighten the world in a way that no trend or beauty treatment ever could. Rest in the truth of who God says you are and know His standards are way different than the world’s.

You are fearfully, wonderfully, and magnificently made.

Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father, we come to you with open and grateful hearts. Transform us from the inside out so our beauty comes from the content of our character and the love we have for others. Fill us with joy and goodness in only the way you can. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
